History
The Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art (1980, 2000) was named in honor of distinguished Chicago art collectors Mary and Leigh B. Block. The museum's permanent collection consists of almost 4,000 works of art - prints, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and mixed-media works - dating from the 13th century to the present. The museum, originally designed by Loebl, Schlossman, and Hackl, is adjoined by an outdoor sculpture garden established in 1989. A 13,000-square-foot expansion designed by Dirk Lohan (2000) significantly increased the capacity of the museum.
